General Training

There are two tasks to be completed in 60 minutes.

For Task 1, candidates will be required to write a letter of at least 150 words in 20 minutes, while a minimum of 250 words will be required to be written in 40 minutes for Task 2.

Task 2 contributes twice as much as Task 1 to the Writing score.

How Task 1 is assessed:

This Task is assessed according to candidates:

success in communicating their request or explanation

consistency and appropriateness of the letter’s tone

ability to fully highlight and present bullet points.

For Task 2, candidates will be required to formulate and develop a position in relation to a given prompt in the form of a question or statement. Ideas should be supported by evidence, and examples may be drawn from the test takers’ own experience.

How Task 2 is assessed:

 

Writing will be accessed on these 4 criteria: task response and accuracy, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy.

Academic Training

The IELTS Writing Task 1 requires writing a summary about some visual information, usually in the form of a graph, chart, schematics or a process diagram. Candidates will need to pick out the main features and describe and compare the data given
